Expanded agreement includes extension of supply chain solutions, additional revenue cycle tools, supply chain consulting and decision support solutions
ATLANTA, GA – MedAssets, Inc. announced the extension of an agreement with The University of North Carolina Health Care System (UNC HCS) to provide supply chain management solutions. The expanded agreement also includes additional revenue cycle management tools, supply chain consulting and decision support solutions. The agreement was effective December 31, 2007.
UNC HCS originally engaged MedAssets Supply Chain Systems for group purchasing in 2004 and expanded the relationship in 2005 by implementing MedAssets Net Revenue Systems’ chargemaster management, charge capture and pricing tools. The 2007 agreement continues the previous work in supply chain and revenue cycle and links the two areas with implementation of CrossWalk®. This tool continuously links supply data with charge data to ensure charges cover costs with a defensible markup.
The technology of MedAssets’ subsidiary Avega Health Systems, also included in the agreement, provides the Alliance Suite to integrate financial, clinical, and administrative information to support decision making across the organization. Alliance assists UNC HCS with cost management, contract management, budgeting, clinical-financial analytics and enterprise wide reporting.
Additional supply chain technology and service, Strategic Information for Pharmacy, helps UNC HCS to monitor pharmacy spend and ensure the accurate price is paid. The service also offers analysis of drug utilization, recommends alternatives where appropriate, and models the financial impact of changing utilization.
Aspen Healthcare Metrics will analyze current UNC HCS supply chain processes to identify opportunities for increased efficiencies and cost savings. Optimized supply chain operations will support patient care goals and improve UNC’s financial performance.
"The increasing call for transparency in healthcare prompted us to search for tools that could provide timely access to accurate financial and clinical information," said Chuck Mauro, director, Materials Management, UNC Hospitals. "Our existing relationship with MedAssets was a logical place to start our search. With their expertise in supply chain, revenue cycle and financial - clinical performance reporting, we believe we have chosen the right business partner to integrate information from disparate systems for greater transparency."
“We are pleased that University of North Carolina Health Care System has chosen to grow their relationship with MedAssets,” stated Rand Ballard, chief operating officer, MedAssets, Inc. “We know the implementation of the entire suite of MedAssets tools and services will significantly benefit their bottom line.”
